Simon Smith Goalkeeping – History  
In February 1995, Simon set up his own goalkeeping coaching company Simon Smith Goalkeeping.  

Aim
To provide specialist goalkeeping coaching courses for goalkeepers, goalkeeping coaches and coaches.  

Objective
To carry out specialist one day goalkeeping coaching courses. To give young goalkeepers, 17+ goalkeepers, goalkeeping coaches and coaches, the opportunity and access to specialist goalkeeping coaching. To provide resource information for goalkeepers and coaches i.e. videos, DVDs and book.  

Simon Smith is one of the UK’s leading goalkeeping coaches, Simon has over 15 years of coaching experience at International, Premiership and Academy level with men, women, boys and girls. Simon holds the UEFA ‘A’ Coaching Award, the UEFA ‘A’ Goalkeeping Award and the F.A. Coaching Diploma for Coach Educators and has worked as a specialist goalkeeping coach on the F.A ‘A’ Licence Course and UEFA ‘B’ Goalkeeping Course.
For the six seasons he was Sir Bobby Robson’s goalkeeping coach at Newcastle United, working with Shay Given and Steve Harper in the English Premier League, UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, he is now offering goalkeepers the opportunity to come and be coached by the professionals.

Goalkeeping Coaching Courses for Boys and Girls 8 to 16  
Simon has developed a structured goalkeeping programme for young goalkeepers 8 -18. Due to his background and experience, Simon is equally at home working with coaches, senior international goalkeepers and under 9 goalkeepers – male or female. At Simon Smith Goalkeeping our focus is on technical excellence and skill, teaching through specific and realistic practice to ultimately improve the goalkeepers match day performance – all you need to bring is attitude, application and a desire to want to learn and improve!
This course gives goalkeepers the opportunity to receive specialist goalkeeping coaching in all aspects of the position: handling, catching, footwork, diving, shot stopping, recovery saves, reflex saves, one v one, dealing with crosses, dealing with the back pass, distribution; these topics will be covered in realistic match related practice – giving you the edge when you return to your team! This course allows you to learn and fine-tune all the techniques and skills you require to become a top class goalkeeper – the rest is up to you!  

Goalkeeping Coaches Courses for Coaches  

These one day courses are designed for Goalkeepers, Goalkeeping Coaches and Outfield Coaches.
Where do you get your coaching material from; courses, books, videos, DVD’s, television, watching other coaches’ work?  As open minded coaches’ we are always looking for more information – practices, drills, techniques, coaching styles.
I would like to offer you the opportunity to come and work with Premiership Coaches – offering you an insight into their coaching philosophies, teaching methods and practices.
There will also be an opportunity to take a session yourself, something requested on previous courses – working with small groups on specific goalkeeping topics. If you just want to come and listen and learn – great, but you will be expected to serve, if you just want to improve your own goalkeeping techniques and skills, no problem! This course is run by people who are dedicated to goalkeeping, working every day with top professionals but have also been described as ‘goalkeeping anoraks’, coaches who have a passion and enthusiasm about their chosen subject – Goalkeeping!

Goalkeeping Coaching Course 17+ Goalkeepers (Senior)
  
This goalkeeping course is designed for Senior Goalkeepers who want to move to the next level and experience the work the pros do on a daily basis.  
This course will cover all aspects of goalkeeping but the work will be at a higher intensity and more physically and mentally demanding. Work will be in small groups this will give the coaching staff time to identify individual strengths and weaknesses and give feedback to help improve the goalkeeper’s performance.  
This course will put you in realistic match situations so that in match play you will be able to handle what ever the opposition throw at you!

The Staff  
Many of the staff both past and present from Simon Smith Goalkeeping have gone on to work in professional football either in a full time or part time capacity;  David Coles, fellow author and film maker, is at Portsmouth F.C. working with David James, Adam Sadler is currently Reserve Team Manager at Newcastle United, Adam Bartlett is Academy Goalkeeping Coach at Newcastle United and goalkeeper for Blyth Spartans F.C. and England ‘C’ Team, Simon Hood is Assistant Academy Goalkeeping Coach at Middlesbrough F.C., Ben Smith is a professional goalkeeper at Doncaster Rovers, Paul Reynolds is 8–16 Goalkeeping Coach at Leicester City, Pat Mountain is Goalkeeping Coach at Cheltenham F.C. and Paul McHugh is U11 Academy Coach at Newcastle United.
